The National Institutes of Health is seeking candidates for two open positions which may be of interest to ASRM members:
Associate Director for Research on Women’s Health
Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives, Office of the Director, NIH.
The Associate Director for Research on Women’s Health provides advice and staff support to the Director of the NIH and has responsibility for coordinating the development of NIH policies, goals, and objectives and serving as a channel of communication within the intramural and extramural community, with organizations interested in women's health, with other Federal agencies and with the media in regard to research on women's health. The appointed individual will also serve as the Director, Office of Research on Women’s Health.
Applicants must possess an M.D. and/or Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree in the biomedical sciences, plus senior-level scientific experience and broad knowledge in a field relevant to women's health research. Candidates should have demonstrated leadership and broad vision in women's health research.

Associate Director for Extramural Research
The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development
The Associate Director for Extramural Research is a senior leadership position within the NICHD, involving the management of scientific, policy and administrative matters of the extramural research programs of the Institute. The incumbent oversees the activities of the Institute’s extramural research programs and manages scientific peer review, award, and post-award activities related to research, development, and training grants and contracts in maternal and child health, family health and well-being, and medical rehabilitation. The NICHD’s extramural research programs involve over 3,100 research projects, a budget in excess of 1.1 billion dollars, and a staff of 130 individuals.
The Associate Director for Extramural Research reports to the Director, NICHD, and serves as the Director’s principal advisor on extramural scientific and policy issues. The incumbent also serves as the Executive Secretary of the National Advisory Child Health and Human Development Council. He/she represents an authoritative source of scientific expertise, provides scientific and policy leadership, develops and articulates NICHD scientific and disease-related priorities, keeps abreast of the latest scientific advances and identifies opportunities not yet explored.
Applicants must possess an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree; have demonstrated scientific leadership in an extramural research program of national and international standing in an area relevant to the mission of the NICHD, and which must have included managing policies and procedures related to extramural research administration; and have well-honed administrative and interpersonal skills. This experience may be gained via senior level research experiences as a principal investigator of a grant or contract; or, may be otherwise gained through active involvement in initiating research projects, developing protocols, conducting studies, documenting findings, interpreting results in a published report or journal, supervising staff, and managing a budget.
